One of the nation's icebreakers is north of the Arctic Circle, looking for ice.
Coast Guard Chief Warrant Officer Allison Conroy tells The Associated Press that the Polar Star left Unalaska on Friday taking part in ice trials after the ship was retrofitted.
The ship was reactivated last December following a four-year, $57 million overhaul.
The 35-year-old ship, which calls Seattle its homeport, is one of the nation's only two heavy-duty icebreakers. It began sea trials in January.
